Frederick Police Charge 13-Year-Old In Armed Robbery

Frederick, Md (KM) A 13-year-old boy has been charged as a juvenile for the armed robbery of a downtown Frederick business. Police say the youth was apprehended following the holdup on Monday, and charged with armed robbery, 1st- and 2nd-degree assault,  theft and destruction of property.

Just after 12:00 noon, officers responded to a business in the 600 block of North Market Street to investigate reports of a commercial robbery. Authorities were told that the suspect attempted to steal items from the store, and assaulted an employee and a customer who were inside at the time. A handgun was also displayed. The youth got away.

Detectives canvassed the area, and also obtained audio and video surveillance from the store.. One officer recognized the teenager from a previous case, and was able to track him down and take the youth into custody.  A BB handgun was recovered along with other evidence in the case.

The 13-year-old has been released to the custody of his parents.
