Police say driver of motorcycle was traveling the wrong direction on Route 26 before the crash
Frederick, Md. (DG) – A motorcyclist traveling the wrong way on Route 26 was struck and killed by another vehicle late Wednesday night in Frederick County.
According to a press release from Maryland State Police, 39 year old Joseph Franklin Carter of Keedysville, was operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle in the westbound lanes of Route 26 eastbound by the Monocacy River before 11 PM. At one point, he drove off the roadway and hit a concrete curb near Route 26 and Route 194.
Carter continued operating his motorcycle westbound in the eastbound lanes of Route 26, when a Jeep traveling eastbound struck the motorcycle head on by the Monocacy River.
Carter died from injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the Jeep was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The roadway was shut down for several hours, while police conducted an investigation.
