Williamsport Man Medivaced To Burn Unit Following Kitchen Fire

His wife rescued him from their home.

Williamsport, Md (KM A Williamsport man was flown to the Burn Center at Medstar Washington Hospital Center Friday afternoon following a kitchen fire in his home.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says at around 12-noon, fire fighters were dispatched to a house fire at 10729 Hoffman Drive. When they arrived, they found heavy fire throughout the home. 70 fire fighters spent 45-minutes bringing the flames under control.

Fire investigators say a 76-year-old man turned on the stove and walked away. After discovering, the fire, he tried to put it out, but the heavy smoke overcame him and he collapsed. His wife came home, and was able to pull her husband out of the home before the fire engulfed the house.

Officials say the man’s wife called him a few minutes before she got home, and asked him to pre-heat the oven. Instead, heĀ  inadvertently turned on the stove top. Fire investigators say items on top of the stove ignited the fire.

The victim suffered 14-percent burns over various parts of his body. He is listed in stable condition.

Fire investigators say the man’s wife is credited with saving her husband’s life.
