The vote passed 7-4.Montgomery County, Md. (BW)- The Montgomery County Council passed a bill Tuesday placing limits on how much landlords could increase rent.Bill 15-34, also known as the “Anti-Goughing Bill” caps rent increases at 3% over inflation or 6% of the base rent pay, whichever is less.County Executive Marc Elrich said this provides relief to renters, who make up 35% of the county population.The bill passed in a 7-4 vote. Those opposed were Marilyn Balcombe, Dawn Luedtke, Gabe Albornoz and Andrew Friedson.The bill will take effect in April 2024.
