U.S Route 340 Closure In West Virginia Expected To Detour 25,000 Vehicles A Day

The roadway will be closed until December 12.

Harpers Ferry, WV (BW)- U.S Route 340 will be closed in West Virginia starting tomorrow, Sept 12, and will not reopen until Dec 12.

Motorists on both the eastbound and westbound lanes will be detoured using West Virginia Route 9, Virginia Route 9 and Virginia Route 671.

These alternate routes will detour approximately 25,000 vehicles per day.

The roadway will be closed from Harpers Ferry to the Virginia State line.

Crews from the West Virginia Department of Transportation will be installing rock fall and rock slide prevention measures on the mountainside along the eastbound side of the roadway.

Jason Foster, the Chief Engineer of Development for this project said the dates of construction were decided on by a delegation of elected officials who determined this time to have the samllest impact on motorists.
