The suspect violated several offenses and was wanted in Virgina.
Jefferson County, WV. (BW)- Two Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies were involved in vehicle accidents while pursuing a suspect on Wednesday, Sept 6.
Around 10:50 p.m., Deputy Tristan Lutman attempted to pull over a Nissan Sentra for speeding on East Fifth Avenue in Ranson.
The Sentra continued to speed, ran through stop signs and drove in the opposite lanes of travel. While in pursuit of the suspect, travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Route 9, the Sentra made an abrupt right turn, causing a collision with the deputy’s cruiser. The cruiser became inoperable and the Sentra continued to flee.
Deputy Ty Carroll continued pursuit of the suspect, making contact with the vehicle and causing both vehicles to stop.
The suspect then climbed out the passenger window and began to flee on foot. Lutman continued an on-foot pursuit and was able to detain the suspect after deploying his taser.
The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Nicholas Halleck of Strasburg, Virginia. Hallack’s vehicle was searched. Several drugs and drug paraphernalia, including fentanyl and needles were found.
He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, driving revoked for D-U-I, obstruction, fleeing on foot, stop sign violations, travelling on opposite lane of travel and speeding. He also had warrants for his arrest in Virginia.
Hallack was transported to Winchester Medical Center for his injuries. Lutman also sustained minor injuries.
Hallack was detained in Frederick County, Virginia, awaiting extradition back to West Virginia.
