Four locations will be available for residents to drop off their trees starting Dec. 26th.
Frederick, Md (KM) When Christmas is over, you’ll need to take down that tree. The City of Frederick says four locations will be available to take your used tree as part of its Christmas Tree Recycling Program. .
From December 26th, 2023 through January 31st, 2024, you can drop it off at the Harry Grove Stadium parking lot; Husky Park Yard Two on Highland Street; Taskers Chance parking lot on Key Parkway behind the Westridge Square Shopping Center; and Max Kehne Park on West Seventh Street. Residents are urged to remove any ornaments, lights, garland, tree stands and tinsel from the tree before dropping it off. Remove any plastic bags from around the tree.
The trees will be ground up into mulch which can be used for soil temperature moderation; moisture and water retention; weed reduction; and the recycling of nutrients through decomposition.
City officials say it also conserves space at the landfill, and saves city funds through a reduction in the purchase of mulch.
