Fiery Crash Closes South Jefferson Street In Frederick Wed. Morning

The driver of the striking vehicle was arrested.

Frederick, Md (KM) One person was transported to the hospital following a vehicle crash and fire early Wednesday morning in Frederick.

County Fire and Rescue Services says at around 6:13 AM, units were dispatched to the 100 block of South Jefferson street for a vehicle accident,. It was later upgraded to a vehicle fire.

Personnel arriving at the scene, found one vehicle crashed into the back of  several other vehicles. That resulted in two of those vehicles catching fire and their fuel tanks rupturing. It took fire fighters 20-minutes to put out the flames.

A house near the accident was checked and ventilated due to smoke and odor from the vehicle fires.

Fire and rescue says one patient was taken by ground to the hospital. A second patient refused transport.

The News Post is reporting that the individual taken to the hospital is charged with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The paper also reports that person  was wrestled to the ground by another individual, and held by citizens until police arrived.

The area along South Jefferson Street between South Street and West Patrick Street was closed for two hours.
