Frederick County Public School Students Pick TJ High Junior As Student Board Of Ed Member

He will assume his new duties on July 1st, 2024.

Frederick, Md (KM) A Governor Thomas Johnson High School junior has been elected as the next student member of the Frederick County Board of Education. Elijah Steele was chosen by middle and high school students who voted on line.

Steele will take over as the School Board’s student member on July 1st. 2024. . Prior to that time, he’ll shadow the current student School Board member, Brooke Lieberman,  from Urbana High School.

At Governor Thomas Johnson High School, Steele is a member of the Student Government Association, and chaired the Homecoming Committee. He also is a member of the Black Student Union, Future Health Professionals and Junior Executive Clubs.

The results of election were finalized on Tuesday, February 6th. Delegates representing each middle and high school cast their  votes  during the Frederick Association of Student Councils General Assembly.

During the campaign, Steele pledged to focus on mental health awareness and equitable opportunities for students. The student school board member brings a student’s viewpoint on educational issues to the Board of Education.
