Frederick Police Make Arrest After Barricade Incident

Frederick, Md (KM) A Frederick man faces a long list of charges including assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and several traffic offenses. Jason Idell Chenevert, 41, was taken into custody Thursday night following a vehicle pursuit and a barricade situation.

Police say they were dispatched at around 6:22 PM to the 300 block of Ballenger Center Drive for a domestic incident. They located a person who had been assaulted by a family member. The victim identified Chenevert as the assailant. .

As officers were speaking with the victim, Chenevert returned and refused to get out of his truck. That led to a chase which took authorities to Jefferson Street, US 340 and Interstate 70. Frederick Police abandon the pursuit when the truck entered I-70, turning itĀ  over to the Maryland State Police.

State Police followed Chenevert back to the 300 block of Ballenger Center Drive where he barricaded himself in his truck. The Special Response Team, the Crisis Negotiation Team and the K-9 Unit took positions around the truck. The Frederick Police and the Sheriff’s Office put their armored rescue vehicles in the area to prevent Chenevert from leaving.

Authorities say Chenevert got out of his truck, and fled on foot toward a wooded area, ,but was successfully apprehended. Chenevert and one police officer suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. .

He is charged with:

Robbery (Strong Arm)

Assault, 2nd Degree – Law Enforcement Officer (Simple)

Assault, 2nd Degree (Simple Assault)

Disorderly Conduct

Resisting Arrest

Driving on Suspended License and Privileges

Driving While License Suspended

Driving Motor Vehicle on Highway Without Registered License

Failure to Obey Traffic Device

Negligent Driving

Reckless Driving

Willfully Disobeying Lawful Order and Direction of Police Officer

Attempt by Driver to Elude Uniform Police by Failing to Stop Vehicle
