The Health Department is trying to locate its owner.
Frederick, Md (KM) A child was bitten by a dog on Monday afternoon at Baker Park in Frederick, and the Health Department says it’s needs to get in contact of its owner.
Officials say the bite happened when the dog ran up to the child who attempted to pet it. The incident occurred on the bike trail near the Schifferstadt Architectural Museum.
The dog is described as medium build, possibly a Labrador or pit bull type animal with short or sleek gray hair. It was not wearing a collar and was unaccompanied at the time.
The Health Department says the dog will need to undergo a ten-day quarantine to monitor its health; the quarantine can take place inside the owner’s home. If the dog is verified to be in good health, it can resume its normal activities, and the child will not have to undergo unnecessary, and expensive post-exposure rabies shots. The owner or anyone who has information on the owner or the dog is asked to call Frederick Count Animal Control at 301-600-1544.
If someone in your family has been bitten or scratched by a dog or cat, that person should report it to Frederick County Animal Control at 301-600-1544 Any human exposure should be reported to the Health Department’s Community Health Service at 301-600-3342.
