Middletown Woman Sentenced For Fraud Scheme

She pleaded guilty last week.

Frederick, Md (KM) A Middletown woman was sentenced last week for one count of theft scheme with a value of $100,000 or more. The Maryland’s Attorney General’s Office says Cheryl Leigh Gray, 49, pleaded guilty last Friday to stealing $369,492.01 from real estate transactions. .

Gray worked for Passport Title Services LLC of Rockville as a licensed insurance producer. The company conducts real estate settlements in Maryland, Virginia and Washington D-C.

The Attorney General’s Office says Gray used her position to transfer funds meant for disbursement from real estate transactions to her personal account in Frederick County. . These actions took place from May, 2016 to July, 2021.

On same day as she pleaded guilty, Frederick County Circuit Court Judge Julie Stevenson Solt sentenced Gray to five years in prison, with all but one year suspended. Gray is required to pay $63,536.46 in restitution   Before entering her guilty plea, she repaid $305,995.55 to the victim, Passport Title Services, LLC, according to the Office of the Maryland Attorney General.
