DC Woman Arrested For Assault In Frederick

Frederick, Md (KM) A Washington DC woman has been charged with an assault in Frederick earlier this year.. Nola Ann Michelle Bens, 59,, was taken into custody on April 15th in Alexandria, Virginia. She was extradited back to Maryland on April 23rd, and is being held  at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center without bond.

Bens is charged with armed robbery, robbery, 2nd-degree assault and theft.

Frederick Police say on February 21st, officers responded to the area of South Carroll Street and Carroll Creek for a robbery. They say a woman had parked her car along the street, and was getting out to put money into the meter. A second vehicle came up, and the driver got out as the victim was taking money out of her purse. The suspect tried to grab the purse and there was a struggle. The victim was assaulted and threatened the victim  with a gun. The suspect managed to steal the victim’s car keys before fleeing the scene.

Police say eyewitnesses  provided a description of the suspect and the vehicle,, and investigators were able to obtain surveillance footage from a nearby business which showed both the victim and the suspect inside prior to the assault.

Investigators say they were able to learn the identity of the suspect with assistance from the DC Metropolitan Police Department.   A warrant for Bens’ arrest was obtained on March 15th.

Bens was apprehended by the US Marshal’s Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
