Canvassing Of Mail-In Ballots To Start After Md. Primary

It will be open to the public.

Frederick, Md (KM) Following the Maryland Primary Election on May 14th, canvassing of mail-in ballots will take place. Barbara Wagner, the Election Director for Frederick County, says it will occur on Thursday, May 16th  at the Board of Elections office at 8490 Progress Drive starting at 10:00 AM. She says canvassers will be placed in 20  teams to count the ballots.

“They will come into the office. They will be put in bipartisan teams and they will begin opening up the envelopes, checking to make sure that the ballot is marked correctly, and then we will begin tabulating,” she says.

Wagner says the public is invited to come by and watch the counting.

A second canvassing of mail-in ballots will take place on Friday, May 24th.  That will be followed by a post-election audit, and certification and verification of the results.

The General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5th.
