Child Injured In Montgomery County After Accidentally Shooting Herself

She was rushed to the hospital where she underwent surgery.

Gaithersburg, Md (KM) A three-year-old girl is recovering after she accidentally shot herself on Tuesday.

Montgomery County Police were dispatched at 12:09 PM to an apartment in the 18700 block of Walkers Choice Road in Montgomery Village for an injured child. The girl was taken to an area hospital where she underwent surgery.

Officers say they requested and received a search warrant for the apartment, where they found a 40-caliber privately manufactured firearm.

A 15-year-old boy, who does not live at that location,  was charged with possessing ammunition by a prohibited person which is a misdemeanor. The boy has been turned over to the custody of his parents.

The incident remains under investigation.
