Most are praising Biden for his years of public service to the country.
Frederick, Md (KM) There’s been plenty of reaction coming in to President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the race for the White House. In statement, 6th District Representative David Trone says Biden stepped up to serve his country in its hour of need. He says Biden’s leadership has brought a new era of industry and innovation, and drove down unemployment to historic lows, and bolstered opportunity for millions of Americans.
” I commend President Biden’s decision to allow a new generation of leaders to take this country to new heights–leaders who will continue his legacy of unity and strength, of focusing on what brings us together , not was tears us a apart,” Trone said in his statement.
Biden dropped out of the presidential race on Sunday following his disastrous debate with Donald Trump last month, which raised questions about his fitness for office. The decision comes following pressure from his Democratic allies,
Senator Chris Van Hollen in a statement says Biden has shown the nation the true meaning of a dedicated public servant, and has helped improve the lives of millions, but never forgetting where he came from. “Biden has always put our country first and in making this decision, he has once again done what he thinks is best for the future of democracy,” says Van Hollen.
Van Hollen also said Biden’s legacy will set an example of what we can accomplish on behalf of Americans for generations to come.
Senator Ben Cardin called Joe Biden a friend, and a passionate public servant, putting this nation first time and again. He said Biden led an administration that for four years helped the nation, and created hope and opportunity. Cardin also said America has earned back the respect and leadership of the free world
“Joe Biden has earned the right to determine his own future and I respect his decision,” Cardin says in his statement. .”I thank him for his incredible service with all my heart.
Cardin himself is retiring after his current term ends in January.
The two candidates seeking to replace Senator Cardin also weighed in on Biden’s decision. Former Governor Larry Hogan, who is running for the US Senate as a Republican, said he respects Biden for his years of public service, and believes the President made the right decision for his family and his country. “These are dangerous and unprecedented times. He should be commended for putting the country ahead of personal ambition,” Hogan said in a statement.
As he has said previously, Hogan said the only way out of this “cycle of chaos, divisiveness and dysfunction is to elect principled, common sense and experienced leaders who will focus on the day-to-day challenges facing Americans. We need less palace intrigue, less partisan nonsense and more decisive action to solve the serious problems facing our country,” Hogan said in his statement,.
Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, who is running as a Democrat for the US Senate for Maryland, said Biden has fought for the soul of the nation, and it’s a fight he has won. “He led with decency and moral clarity,” she said in a statement.
Alsobrooks also said she is behind Vice President Kamela Harris 100 percent. ‘Kamela Harris is a leader,” Alsobrooks says. “She will provide a clear and stark contrast to the regressive division Donald Trump has for this country. She will make the this race about the future and the kind of country our children deserve to inherit. Each and every one of us deserves that kind of leader.”
In announcing his decision to drop out, President Biden says he will continue to serve as the nation’s chief executive until his term in office ends at 12:00 noon on January 20th, 2025. He also threw his support behind Vice President Harris.
