Governor Signs Preparedness Declaration

It’s ahead of the possible arrival of Tropical Storm Debby.”The safety of Marylanders is our top priority. By declaring a State of Preparedness, I am directing the Department of Emergency Management to coordinate the comprehensive preparation of State Government ahead of any potential impacts from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby,” says Governor Moore, in a statement.. “Residents and visitors should monitor local weather forecasts, remain vigilant, and be prepared to follow safety instructions from local emergency officials.”The latest National Hurricane Center forecast says Tropical Storm Debby’s impact in Maryland will be felt late on Thursday and into Saturday. But that all depends on how long the storm stays off the southeast coast of the US and tracks into the Mid-Atlantic.Official says the at this time, the impacts from Debby could be heavy rain, and tidal flooding.The Governor’s Office says Marylanders and visitors should encourage family and friends to finish preparedness activities now, and check on your neighbors and older adults, and provide additional assistance if needed. Also, make sure you have an evacuation zone if you must leave your current locations. And follow instructions from local emergency management officials. Along with that, keep your cell phones, tablets and laptops charged so that you can keep up to date with weather forecasts and other information. Finally, state officials say have enough supplies in your household, including medications, disinfectants and pet supplies.
