Federal Funds Coming To Maryland For Security, Safety At Houses Of Worship

The total amount is more than $7 million.Washington DC (KM) Maryland’s Congressional Delegation has announced $7,393,350 in federal funds has been set aside to provide security and  safety at 50 houses of worship in the state. The members of the Congressional Delegation making this announcement are Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin, and Representatives Steny Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Jaime Raskin, David Trone and Glen Ivey.The funds come from the US Department of Homeland Security’s NonProfit Security Grant Program. In a statement, the Senators and Representatives say they fought to fund this Grant Program at  $454.5 million dollars for fiscal year 2024. an increase from $305 million in fiscal year 2023.”Religious freedom is  protected under our Constitution, and every Marylander must be able to worship without fear for their safety,”  the Senators and Representatives said in a statement. “With threats and attacks against faith communities on the rise, we must not only speak out against those hateful actions—-we also must invest in protecting these institutions that support communities across our state.
