(WEST FRIENDSHIP, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday morning on Interstate 70 in Howard County.
The deceased is identified as Joshua Donta Wilson, 38, of Grand Prairie, Texas. He was pronounced deceased on the scene by emergency medical personnel. No other injuries were reported.
At approximately 6:36 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Waterloo Barrack responded to the area of eastbound I-70 just west of MD 32 for reports of a crash involving three tractor trailers. The preliminary investigation indicates that all three tractor trailers were traveling eastbound on I-70 when for unknown reasons, a Mack Truck, driven by Wilson, struck the rear of another tractor trailer. The impact from the crash subsequently caused the second tractor trailer to strike the rear of a Freightliner tractor trailer. The Freightliner was transporting wooden roof trusses, which scattered throughout the eastbound side of the roadway.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation with assistance from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures, which lasted approximately eight hours.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
