Per Maryland law, the State Attorney General’s Office has assumed the investigation into the shooting.
Ellicott City, MD – The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) is investigating a fatal shooting involving Howard County police in Columbia June 9.
At approximately 7:24 p.m., Howard County police were called to the 9200 block of Wilbur Court by an adult male in his 20s who reported he had been repeatedly stabbed by a family member who fled the scene.
Two minutes later, the stabbing suspect, also an adult male in his 20s, called 911 from the intersection of Oakland Mills Road and Carters Lane indicating he was armed.
A responding officer encountered the suspect who was armed with a large spear. According to multiple witnesses, the suspect approached the officer and refused to drop the weapon. He was shot by the officer and pronounced dead at the scene. There is no additional information available at this time about the details of the injuries or shots fired.
No officers were injured. The stabbing victim remains in critical condition at Shock Trauma.
Per Maryland law, the IID has assumed the investigation into the shooting and will release any follow-up information.
