Frederick, Md (KM) The Aviation Command of the Maryland State Police helped with the search for a suspect involved in a vehicle crash in West Virginia.

At around 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 23rd, the helicopter based in Frederick known as Trooper Three was dispatched to West Virginia to the search for two suspects who fled from a vehicle crash where a West Virginia State Trooper was injured. When the chopper arrived at the scene, the flight crew was told the first suspect had already been apprehended. So they concentrated on searching for the second suspect.

Using a MX-15 Wescam camera and with assistance from state troopers on the ground, the crew of Trooper Three tracked the second suspect through a wooded area and on to Edsel Street. The second suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The Maryland Aviation Command says it has served Maryland’s citizens since 1970.   It operates a fleet of ten helicopters from seven bases  in Maryland on a 24/7/365 basis. Trooper Three has a hangar at Frederick Municipals Airport.

The missions include medivac, law enforcement, search and rescue, homeland security and disaster assessments. The helicopters’ crews depend on local fire and rescue, EMS and law enforcement agencies on the ground  for their missions to be successful.
