Lockdown At Walter Reed Medical Center Thursday Morning

The situation has returned to normal.

Bethesda, Md (KM) A man carrying a fake gun led to a lockdown Thursday morning at Walter Reed Medical Center in Montgomery County.

The Naval Support Activity in Bethesda says reports came in starting at around 10:30 AM about an individual carrying a rifle. The facility was placed on lockdown and closed to visitors. Security personnel responded to the area near Building Ten. Employees were told to shelter in place.

It turned out the man was carrying a plastic rifle used for training. Montgomery County Police say the man had no malicious intent and will not be facing charges.

The Naval Support Activity in Bethesda says the all-clear was given by 11:15 AM.
