A confrontation outside the Green Valley Marketplace in Elkridge led to a security guard being assaulted and a supervisor shooting the attacker, with both the guard and the man hospitalized in stable condition.
Frederick, Md. (DG) – Two people are recovering after a violent encounter outside a Howard County grocery store ended with gunfire.
Police say a 30-year-old man and a 62-year-old security guard were both taken to Shock Trauma Friday afternoon after an altercation in Elkridge. Investigators believe the incident began when the man assaulted the guard outside the Green Valley Marketplace on Montgomery Road.
A 57-year-old security supervisor who witnessed the attack then pulled his weapon and fired once, striking the man. Both the guard and the man are now in stable condition. The supervisor was not injured and remained at the scene to speak with police.
Detectives say assault charges are expected against the man who attacked the guard. Meanwhile, the circumstances surrounding the supervisor’s decision to open fire remain under investigation.
