MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD (JK) – Montgomery County Police have arrested a third suspect in connection with a September 2025 homicide in North Bethesda.
Detectives say 25-year-old Justin Michael Green Collins, of Silver Spring, was taken into custody on March 17 in Washington, D.C., after authorities located him at a residence in District Heights. Collins had remained at large for months following the shooting death of 29-year-old Akwalabeng Fontava inside Fontava’s apartment on September 21, 2025.
Investigators say two other individuals inside the apartment at the time of the shooting were allegedly kidnapped and later released.
Collins is now charged in Montgomery County with first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, and multiple firearm-related offenses. He is currently being held in Washington, D.C., on handgun possession charges connected to his arrest.
Two other suspects were previously apprehended in the case. Sheldon Milan Boykins was arrested the day of the shooting, while Joshua Carter was later captured in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and extradited to Montgomery County in October 2025. Both men are being held without bond as they await trial.
Authorities also arrested Collins’s mother, 46-year-old Shatym Neko Sanderson, in November 2025. She was charged as an accessory after the fact to first-degree murder after detectives determined she provided financial assistance while Collins was on the run. Sanderson was released in January 2026 on a $5,000 unsecured personal bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
