Darnestown, MD (JK) – A fire early Monday morning in Montgomery County injured one person and left nine adults and five children temporarily displaced.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded around 6:45 a.m. to a home on the 13300 block of Darnestown Road, near Bondy Lane. The fire started in an attached garage and spread into the house. All occupants were able to evacuate safely, with one person being evaluated for non-life-threatening burn injuries.
Officials determined the fire was accidental, citing several competent ignition sources. Damage to the home and its contents is estimated at $500,000, including approximately $300,000 for the structure and $200,000 for personal belongings. More than 50 firefighters responded to the scene to contain the blaze.
No further injuries have been reported, and the investigation into the cause is complete.
