Hagerstown, Md. (DG) – A Hagerstown man will face a second trial on several charges after a jury returned a split verdict in connection to a deadly mass shooting in East Baltimore. 44-year-old Eric Kibler, a member of the Thunderguards Motorcycle Club, was acquitted of first- and second-degree murder in the 2024 shooting that left one person dead and seven others injured.
Jurors did find Kibler guilty on firearm-related offenses, including carrying a handgun without a permit and illegal possession of a regulated firearm. However, they were unable to reach a verdict on multiple other charges, including conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, assault, and use of a handgun during a violent crime.
The shooting happened in August 2024 during a gathering near a clubhouse on North Spring Street, where authorities say a dispute-reportedly over a parking space-escalated throughout the evening before multiple shooters opened fire. Thirty-six-year-old Anthony Martin was killed in the gunfire.
Prosecutors say they plan to move forward with retrying Kibler on the unresolved counts. He is scheduled to be sentenced on the gun convictions on May 8.
