Frederick, Md. (DG) – Federal authorities in Maryland are highlighting two immigration-related prosecutions tied to a nationwide enforcement effort known as Operation Take Back America.
In Howard County, 47-year-old Santos Alvarenga-Rodriguez, an El Salvadorian national in the U.S. illegally, was charged after allegedly assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal officers during a traffic stop. Investigators say he refused repeated commands to exit his vehicle, and the encounter turned physical, leaving officers injured.
In a separate case in Montgomery County, 29-year-old Jairo Mendez-Miranda was arrested after officers conducted a license plate check and discovered he may not be legally present in the country. Authorities noted he had previously been deported on two occasions before reentering the United States.
Both cases are being prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice initiative targeting illegal immigration and violent crime.
