Frederick, Md. (DG) – Two people are dead following a high-speed crash early Thursday in Frederick.
Authorities say the incident began when a Frederick County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a vehicle traveling on Interstate 70 near the Monocacy River at a very high rate of speed. The deputy attempted to catch up but was unable to due to the vehicle’s speed.
The car exited onto Monocacy Boulevard, then continued onto East Patrick Street, eventually getting far ahead of the deputy, who lost sight of it near East Street. Around 12:53 a.m., the vehicle was found crashed near the South East Street roundabout.
Frederick Police responded to assist, confirming two fatalities at the scene. The victims have not yet been identified as officials work to notify next of kin.
A crash reconstruction investigation is now underway, while the state’s Independent Investigations Division has declined to get involved.
