Welcome to Screencaps, “America’s Best Daily Column,” as named by the readers. Screencaps, which publishes seven-days-a-week, is a mix of sports, pop culture, and emails from sane readers from around the world. This column isn’t for the coastal elites. Give us a week to steal your heart. Our track record is pretty good. Let’s have some fun.
If there was ever a good sign, after so many bad headlines over the last 2-3 years, this is it
After I broke the news in October that the Daytona International Speedway Hooters had been permanently closed, there haven’t been bright moments for the legendary brand this fall. No bright spots. Sure, there’s word of some sort of Hooters documentary, but that’s been overshadowed by the news of Hooters closing locations in Chicago and Atlanta.
It’s been an incredibly tough news cycle for those of us who grew up going to this iconic restaurant with our fathers and uncles before football and baseball games.
How about some good news for once? Hoots and the Hooters Girls will be at Miami-Homestead Speedway this weekend for the Cup championship to celebrate the No. 41 Chevy Hooters car driven by Cole Custer.
HOOTERS RESTAURANTS KEEP CLOSING EVEN AS CEO SAYS THERE’S MORE TO THE STORY
This will be the first time Hooters has appeared on a car since a disastrous situation in 2024 when Hendrick Motorsports filed a lawsuit on Hooters seeking $1.705 million after a brand deal went bad. Eventually, Hoots paid up $900k.
Let’s hope that the brand has figured out how to stay solvent and can get back to being a place where red-blooded men can suck down cold beers, chicken wings and watch some racin’.

I could stay home today and watch TV in the man cave, but I’m going to ‘create memories’ like you hear suburban moms talk about on Instagram
On a whim, I decided to tell Screencaps Jr. last night that we’re going to the Ohio State game today and that he could bring a couple of friends. We’re talking one dad (me), three 8th grade boys. I figured there’s no way in hell I’m going to chaperone the Washington D.C. trip, so why not pack up Mrs. Screencaps’ grocery-getter and take some boys down to Ohio Stadium for what was supposed to be a massive game this season?
Am I nuts?
My dad always enlisted the help of one of his buddies to go on trips like this. I’m like, screw it, let’s do this. Boys, bundle up, we’re going to the upper deck. It’s going to be cold. It’s going to be dark by the second half. It could be ugly if Ohio State loses and is officially eliminated from the CFB playoffs.

Speaking of getting the kids out of the house
• Big Den in Colorado is a proud grandpa: My soon to be 12 year old grandson in Tennessee bagged his first deer last weekend, couple weeks after passing his hunter safety test with a perfect score. His Dad got one a week before and grandson helped skin it!
I don’t know why so many people think Nebraska is magically going to turn into the Nebraska of the 80s and 90s?
We have a bunch of Nebraska readers. I’d like to ask you guys what it’s going to take for Nebraska to win 9 games again, like it did in 2016? And how is it possible you guys cannot beat Minnesota? These numbers are startling.

Do you think the Cybertruck will be a collector’s item 40 years from now?
Will future generations see the truck in a different light? Was it ahead of its time? Or was it all just a dumb experiment that turned out to energize guys on South Beach?

And with that, it’s time for me to get serious about heading to Columbus. Let’s see how these 8th graders handle themselves on the big campus.
Have a great weekend.
