Germantown Man Sentenced In Frederick County Circuit Court For Child Abuse

Tre Anthony Garrett, 33, received 30 years incarceration  with all but 15 years suspended for 1st-degree child abuse and neglect of a minor.The State’s Attorney’s Office says on January 5th, 2024, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Frederick Health Hospital for a two-year-old boy suffering injuries to his body as well as multiple brain bleeds and skull fractures. He was flown to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC where he was treated. The medical staff concluded the injuries were suspicious and were not accidental.Detectives say they interviewed the child’s mother who said she was running some errands while Garrett was taking care of the child. When she came home, the boy’s mother told detectives the child was wearing clothing that was inappropriate for the weather. She attempted to take the child from Garrett. When she was unable to do so, she called 911.Police found Garrett while responding to another 911 call in the area, but not the two-year-old boy.   About ten hours after the initial 911 call, the defendant’s mother brought the child to Frederick Health Hospital.Through an investigation conducted by detectives and medical personnel. it was determined the child’s injuries occurred when he was in the care of the defendant.In pronouncing sentence on Tuesday, Frederick County Circuit Court Judge Joanmarie Raymond Brubaker told Garrett: “You must get a handle on your drug issues to establish a healthy relationship with your son.”As part of his sentence, Garrett will be placed on five-years of supervised probation with special conditions after he’s released from prison. He must have no contact with the victim, and no unsupervised contact with any minor child.By Kevin McManus
