Frederick, Md (JK) – The Frederick County Board of Education has reappointed Dr. Cheryl L. Dyson as superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools, extending her contract through June 2030. Her second term begins July 1, 2026.
Board members say Dyson has provided steady leadership while guiding the fast-growing district through enrollment increases, staffing challenges, and budget pressures, all while keeping a focus on student achievement.
During her first term, FCPS reported a 94 percent graduation rate, low absenteeism, and gains in math and reading performance across multiple grade levels. The district has also strengthened staffing, facilities planning, and partnerships with local and state leaders.
Dyson says her priorities moving forward include supporting teachers and staff, improving instruction, and meeting the needs of the county’s more than 48,000 students.
