Baltimore, MD (JK) – Residents and electric customers in Thurmont will have an opportunity to comment on a proposed rate increase next month.
The Maryland Public Service Commission has scheduled a hybrid hearing for Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Thurmont Town Hall, 615 East Main Street. The case has been assigned to the Commission’s Public Utility Law Judge Division, with Judge Jennifer J. Grace presiding.
The Town of Thurmont is seeking to increase electric distribution revenues by approximately $1,114,000, which represents about a 13 percent increase in retail electricity rates. The town’s electric system serves roughly 2,900 customers. Officials say the additional revenue would help cover debt service on infrastructure projects, hire additional staff to operate and maintain the system, and address rising operating expenses.
The hearing will include a presentation from town officials, along with statements from the Office of People’s Counsel and Commission technical staff. Public comments will also be taken.
Those wishing to participate virtually must register by March 9 through the Commission’s website at pscmaryland.com by selecting “Comment on a Case” and following the link for Case No. 9833. Registrants will receive a Zoom link. The hearing will also be streamed live on the PULJ Division’s YouTube channel.
Written comments may be submitted online or by mail through March 12. All correspondence should reference Case No. 9833 to ensure it is included in the proper file.
