Another Code Red Air Quality Alert Day For The Region, Including Frederick County

Residents are urged to limit their outdoor activities.Washington DC (KM) It’s another Code Red air quality day today (Thurs) in the region, and that includes Frederick County. The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments says that means the current air quality makes it unhealthy for anyone to be outside. .Wash COG says the haze we seen in the sky is due to smoke coming from fires in Quebec, Canada which has increased the levels of fine particle pollution.Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity. Those who have respiratory or heart ailments, such as emphysema, asthma or chronic bronchitis, could experience serious health effects,. and they should remain indoors on a Code Red day.There are ways citizens can cut their energy usage on unhealthy air days. They include turning off the lights and electronics when not in use, and follow tips from your electric utility on ways to reduce your use of electricity at home. Resident can also avoid lawn mowing, or use an electric mower. It’s also advised to telework, limit driving, and filling up your vehicle’s tank during the evening hours.By Kevin McManus
