Frederick, Md. (DG) – A confirmed tornado touched down in western Carroll County earlier this week, leaving behind a trail of damage but no reported injuries.
According to the National Weather Service, the EF-0 tornado developed just after noon on March 16 during a line of severe storms that moved through the region. The storm tracked for about 1.6 miles near the New Windsor area, beginning near Clear Ridge Road and continuing past Winters Church Road.
Officials say the tornado reached peak winds of around 80 miles per hour and measured roughly 150 yards wide at its strongest point.
Damage reports show the storm tore through rural areas, collapsing the roof of a large outbuilding and tossing farming equipment, including an agricultural sprinkler.
The storm was part of a larger system that brought strong winds and severe weather across much of Maryland.
