Montgomery County, MD (JK) – A Gaithersburg man is in custody after allegedly striking a Maryland State Police trooper’s vehicle and attempting to flee Sunday night on Interstate 270. Authorities say the crash occurred around 9:20 p.m. near Watkins Mill Road. The trooper was inside the cruiser setting up a work zone with emergency lights on when 35-year-old Job David Martinez struck the vehicle from behind.
Another trooper at the scene quickly arrested Martinez, who now faces suspected DUI charges. The injured officer was taken to a hospital and has since been released.
The crash caused the closure of the interstate’s right lane for more than four hours while investigators worked the scene.
