Gaithersburg, Md. (DG) – Montgomery County Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon in Montgomery Village.
Officers were patrolling near Contour Road after getting complaints about criminal activity when they spotted a man acting suspiciously. When they tried to approach him, he ran into a nearby apartment complex. Police say as officers turned the corner of a building, the man fired two shots at them. One officer returned fire, hitting the suspect.
The 27-year-old man was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. No officers or bystanders were hurt, and a handgun was recovered. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
