Frederick, Md (DG) – A violent offender who had previously been deported was later found living in Frederick and is now facing federal charges.
Authorities say 31-year-old Vanessa Yalixa Munoz-Baque, a citizen of Ecuador, pleaded guilty to illegally re-entering the United States after being removed in 2023. Investigators say she returned just months later and began living in Frederick.
Her presence in the country was discovered after local law enforcement arrested her in Frederick in September 2024 in connection with a violent attack. Officials say she allegedly held a knife to a victim’s neck and stabbed him in the leg, leading to attempted murder and assault charges.
She later pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in that case and received a 25-year sentence, with most of that time suspended.
Now, she also faces up to two years in federal prison for illegal re-entry, with sentencing scheduled for late June.
