Martinsburg, WV (DG) – Two people are facing serious charges after a drug investigation at a West Virginia hotel also revealed a child in dangerous conditions.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office – deputies were called to the Quality Inn in Kearneysville on Sunday March 29th around 11 PM for a welfare check after staff could not reach occupants in a room. When they made contact, a seven-year-old child answered the phone and said they could not wake the adults inside.
Inside the room, deputies found a large amount of suspected drugs, including cocaine, crack, and heroin, along with cash and materials linked to drug distribution.
34-year-old Chelsea Thompson and 46-year-old Darnell Press were arrested at the scene. Both are charged with multiple counts of possession with intent to deliver controlled substances, conspiracy, and child neglect.
Officials say the child was found in the same room where the drugs were located and was taken into protective custody due to unsafe conditions.
Both suspects are being held at the Eastern Regional Jail as the investigation continues.
