Frederick, MD (JK) – Frederick County Public Schools has named Parkway Elementary literacy specialist Alicia Souder as the 2026–27 FCPS Teacher of the Year.
Souder, who has spent 21 years at Parkway Elementary, was recognized during a surprise school ceremony attended by district leaders, students, staff, and her family.
Known for her focus on student reading achievement, collaboration, and advocacy, Souder serves in multiple leadership roles at Parkway, including School Improvement Team member and Literacy Leader. She also coaches Girls on the Run and helps lead literacy family engagement events.
In addition to her work in FCPS, Souder facilitates Maryland State Department of Education reading courses and teaches adult reading classes at Hood College.
As FCPS Teacher of the Year, Souder will represent the school system in the Maryland Teacher of the Year program, joining educators from across the state in professional development and advocacy opportunities.
The FCPS Teacher of the Year program has been recognizing outstanding educators annually since 1998. Souder’s selection follows a nomination and review process involving principals, educators, and community members.
