Gaithersburg, MD (JK) – Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Sunday morning in the Silver Spring area.
According to the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit, the crash happened around 1:17 a.m. on April 12 along Georgia Avenue near Randolph Road.
Preliminary findings indicate a 2011 Cadillac Escalade was traveling northbound when it left the roadway. The vehicle struck a curb, then collided with a concrete retaining wall and a wooden utility pole before overturning and coming to rest upside down in the roadway.
Responding officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel found the driver trapped inside the vehicle and unresponsive. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Cristhian Francisco Trejo Portillo of Silver Spring, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the investigation remains active and could take several weeks or longer to complete.
