Frederick, Md. (DG) – Emergency room visits for tick bites are climbing sharply across Maryland and the Northeast, reaching their highest levels in nearly a decade. New data from the CDC shows the region is seeing the biggest spike, with more than triple the typical number of cases for this time of year.
Health experts warn ticks can carry serious illnesses like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever, with tick season expected to peak in May.
To stay safe, officials recommend wearing long sleeves and pants, using insect repellent, and checking your body and pets after spending time outdoors-especially in grassy or wooded areas.
As tick activity ramps up, awareness and prevention could help keep you out of the ER this spring.
