Franklin County, PA (JK) – A Waynesboro man is facing serious charges after two young children were hospitalized following what police say was an overdose involving THC-infused products.
According to the Waynesboro Police Department, officers were called around 1:22 p.m. on April 14th to the Waynesboro Medical Building urgent care facility on East Main Street for a reported double overdose involving two juveniles. The children, both under the age of five, were being treated after ingesting medicated gummies believed to contain high levels of THC, including Delta-8, Delta-9, and THCP.
Due to delays with air transport, the children were taken by ground to Meritus Medical Center. Hospital staff later confirmed to police that both children were in stable condition.
Investigators say the children’s father, Mohammed Nasser Al Mawjari, told officers he had purchased the THC gummies in Hagerstown for personal use and left them inside his vehicle. Police allege that one of the children accessed the vehicle, retrieved the gummies, and consumed one before giving another to a sibling.
During the investigation, officers also learned that Al Mawjari allegedly traveled to Virginia to obtain vape products for a local vape shop. A search warrant executed on his vehicle and residence reportedly uncovered multiple THC vape cartridges and related products, many of which were found in areas accessible to children.
Among the items seized were several THC vape cartridges with names such as Gorilla Glue, Girl Scout Cookies, Sour Diesel, and Pink Berry Sherbet, along with THC-infused edible products.
Al Mawjari has been charged with two felony counts of child endangerment and ten misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance. He is currently being held at the Franklin County Jail on $300,000 bail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
