Westminster, MD (JK) – A Baltimore man will spend decades behind bars after admitting to a violent domestic assault involving a handgun in Carroll County.
Amari Clinkscales entered an Alford plea in February to first-degree assault and use of a handgun in a crime of violence. On April 15, Carroll County Circuit Court Judge Richard R. Titus sentenced him to 30 years in prison, with the first five years to be served without the possibility of parole. Following his release, Clinkscales will be placed on five years of supervised probation.
The charges stem from a July 13, 2024 incident at a shopping center along Clifton Boulevard in Westminster. Officers with the Westminster Police Department responded to reports of a domestic assault involving a firearm in a vehicle parked in a Walmart lot.
According to investigators, Clinkscales pointed a handgun at a woman’s head and threatened to kill her. The victim was able to escape the vehicle and find a safe location before contacting police.
Clinkscales was located nearby and taken into custody. Authorities later recovered a Taurus revolver from a gray Audi SUV connected to him. The firearm contained six live rounds and one spent casing, and was determined to be stolen.
Investigators also found that Clinkscales was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm due to prior felony convictions involving drugs and weapons. At the time of the incident, he was already on active probation in Baltimore City for a previous firearm offense.
