Rockville, Md. (DG) – An arrest has been made following an armed robbery at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda.
Police say 34-year-old Kilbert Rosales is facing multiple charges after the incident Saturday evening in a parking garage along Democracy Boulevard. Around 6:00 p.m., an off-duty officer was alerted by mall security about a robbery that had just occurred.
Investigators say Rosales approached a man and woman sitting in a parked car outside Nordstrom, opened the driver’s door, and threatened them with a knife before stealing cash and other property. The male victim later spotted the suspect nearby, leading officers to track him down as he walked toward the transit center.
Police say Rosales initially refused to stop, but was taken into custody after a brief encounter. Officers recovered a red box cutter believed to be the weapon used. During and after his arrest, Rosales allegedly resisted, assaulted officers, and damaged a police cruiser window. He later assaulted correctional staff and is now being held without bond.
