Greenbelt, Md. (DG) – A Gaithersburg man has admitted in federal court to a drug-trafficking offense connected to the death of a 15-year-old girl.
Twenty-seven-year-old Kelvin Reyes pleaded guilty Monday to distributing fentanyl to the victim in January 2023. Investigators say the teen contacted Reyes on Instagram late on January 13 to arrange a purchase.
Authorities say Reyes agreed to meet the victim at an elementary school near her Montgomery County home in the early morning hours of January 14. Evidence shows his phone was in the area at the time, and surveillance footage captured the victim leaving her home briefly before returning.
The victim later used the fentanyl and died. Her mother discovered her unresponsive around 7 a.m., and an autopsy determined the cause of death was fentanyl intoxication.
Reyes now faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
