Dickerson, MD (JK) – A serious two-vehicle crash shut down a stretch of Dickerson Road, also known as Route 28, Tuesday night and sent seven people to area hospitals, several with traumatic injuries.
Emergency crews from Frederick and Montgomery counties were dispatched around 8:02 p.m. to the 6000 block of Dickerson Road, between Route 85 and Park Mills Road, after reports of a crash involving entrapment.
Officials say seven patients were involved in the collision. Two individuals were trapped inside their vehicles and had to be extricated by rescue crews before they could be transported for treatment.
Due to the severity of injuries, the Maryland State Police Aviation Command was called to assist. Trooper 2 transported two patients by helicopter, while Trooper 3 airlifted another adult patient to a trauma center. Additional patients were taken by ambulance. Frederick County Fire and Rescue transported one adult by ground, while Montgomery County Fire and Rescue took another adult along with two pediatric patients to a hospital in Northern Virginia.
The crash prompted a large, coordinated response involving multiple agencies from both counties.
Dickerson Road remained closed in both directions following the crash as Maryland State Police began their investigation.
