CARROLL COUNTY, MD (JK) — A two-alarm fire at the Battery Warehouse retail and storage facility brought a large-scale emergency response from Carroll and Baltimore County firefighters on Monday, May 18.
The first alarm was dispatched at 7:26 p.m. after smoke was reported coming from the building. First arriving units from Westminster confirmed a working fire and requested a rapid intervention dispatch. As conditions escalated, a second alarm was struck, bringing in additional resources from multiple jurisdictions.
The response included requests for a foam unit, Hazmat teams, Maryland Department of the Environment officials, a decontamination unit, BGE, and other specialty apparatus. Units from several Carroll County departments and Baltimore County responded to assist at the scene.
Engine 131 from Gamber established a water supply on Rt. 140, where hose lines were deployed. Medic 139 responded on the rapid intervention dispatch, and Engine 134 was assigned on the second alarm. Crews rotated in and out of the building during operations, with rehab and decontamination procedures set up for firefighter safety. Baltimore County’s Rehab 156 also responded to provide canteen services.
Rt. 140 was closed in both directions while emergency operations were underway.
Deputy State Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire. Crews remained on scene late into the evening.
