Deputies were responding to a domestic disturbance call.
Frederick, Md. (KM) – Ten charges have been filed against a Frederick woman who assaulted Sheriff’s Deputies and resisted arrest. Bethany Stovall, 25, was taken into custody on Sunday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office says at around 8:30 AM, deputies responded to the 3200 block of Basford Road for a domestic disturbance. When attempting to take the suspect into custody authorities say Stovall resisted, and bit a deputy on the right arm. She also kicked another deputy in the arms, chest and face. Deputies were able to secure her with the help of nearby family. They got her into the back of a patrol car where she damage the back seat passenger door, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
En route to the Detention Center and stopped at the traffic light at Mountville Road and Route 15, the Sheriff’s Office says Stovall got out of her handcuffs while inside a deputy’s car, and tried to get into the front compartment. A second deputy following the vehicle got out and assisted. The two deputies were able to restrain Stovall until a cage car was brought to the scene. Stovall was then transported to the Detention Center without incident.
She is facing charges of two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of assaulting law enforcement officers and three counts of destruction of property. Other offenses include resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and failing to obey a lawful order.
“Each and every day our deputies put their lives on the line,” says Sheriff Chuck Jenkins, in a statement. “Thankfully, both deputies are okay and successfully took the suspect into custody. This incident is a reminder, that at any given moment and at any given situation things can get quickly out of hand. I am proud of how these deputies treated this situat5ion and am thankful they are safe.”
