A judge has sentenced Carroll County resident Jason Pickett to 20 years in prison following his conviction in a scheme that defrauded a local lawn care company out of more than $310,000. Prosecutors said the case began when C & C Custom Lawncare purchased a snowplow from Pickett in early 2022. After representing himself as a distributor for Snow Wolf Plows, Pickett accepted payment for several additional plows through his company, Arctic Snow and Ice Management, but the equipment was never delivered.
An investigation found the money was not used to buy plows from the manufacturer. Instead, authorities say Pickett used the funds for personal purchases, including a luxury vehicle, false teeth, and other expenses. A jury found him guilty in February of theft scheme over $100,000, theft over $100,000, and other offenses. At Friday’s sentencing, prosecutors pointed to Pickett’s extensive criminal record, a gambling spree before trial, and his purchase of a $26,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle rather than repaying the victim. Despite apologizing and asking to be released so he could make restitution payments, Pickett received the maximum 20-year sentence.
