Two elementary school students escaped injury when their school bus crashed into a tree in Frederick County on Monday.
According to county officials, the bus was traveling near Ball Road and Ijamsville Road shortly after 4:20 p.m. when it left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was severely trapped in the wreckage, prompting a rescue operation by emergency crews. After being freed, the driver was flown to a trauma center for treatment. The two Urbana Elementary School students on board got out safely without assistance, were checked by EMS crews, and were reunited with their parents.
Authorities are continuing to investigate what led to the crash.
